BASS LESSONS

BASS LESSONS

At BMRS, we have state-of-the-art drum lesson rooms that are equipped with acoustic and electric drum kits for our students. Our instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles of drumming. They challenge every student with technical exercises specifically designed to improve their speed and comfort. Beginning students need only their drumsticks and a notebook, and all that’s needed for practice at home is an inexpensive drum pad. Drummers are encouraged to bring in their favorite drum parts to learn. Many of our students are band members who play in local clubs and churches.

What’s the #1 reason to choose BRMS for bass lessons?

Our bass instructors are warm, friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and or your child’s favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to the bass after many years, we’ll help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of bass do you teach?

We teach all styles, from rock, pop, jazz, and blues to metal, country on electric and acoustic basses.

How qualified are your drum instructors?

Our bass instructors have received their musical education from such prestigious institutions as Louisiana State University, the Berklee College of Music, Loyola University, the University of New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana University, and University of Louisiana Lafayette. Many have toured the US and Europe, and bring over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons.

What will I learn from bass lessons at BRMS?

Beginner bass students can expect to work on simple songs and bass lines, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of bass method books and encourage students to bring their favorite songs to learn during their lessons.

Do I need to purchase a bass?

The Academy offers acoustic and electric basses for student lessons (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). But to practice at home, you will need a bass. Many online retailers such as musiciansfriend.com sell appropriate basses for beginners, starting at just $99.00.
