Camper Ages: 11-17 (Younger campers allowed by assessment only)
Camp Times: 9am-4pm Mon-Thurs, 9am-6pm on Friday, Show at 6pm on Friday
Camp Sessions: June 4-8, June 18-22, July 9-13, July 16-20 & July 23-27
Tuition: $500 ($200 deposit refundable until May 1, 2012. Remainder installments optional)
Base Tuition includes morning snack and sandwich, chip, and drink lunch.
Base tuition includes free audio/video downloads of the camper’s song/performance.

rockLab session II registration now open
For the young musician with a lot going on outside the studio. Levels beginner to intermediate. Don’t have time for extra rehearsals and concerts with Young Band, but still want to get the “I’m in a band” experience and the sensation of jamming on stage WITH A BAND?!?! Rock Lab is easy. Students just continue with their private lesson schedule with no extra time commitments. In their 6 lessons during the session, each student learns 1-2 rock songs as other students are learning the same songs in their individual lessons. We take a long day Saturday to rehearsal the material, then we ROCK OUT on Sunday at a local performance space or venue. Rock Star Status: mission accomplished.

rock of ages youth music festival
Come one, come all to the Rock of Ages Youth Music Festival! ROA is Baton Rouge’s only rock, roots, and blues festival where the music entertainment is provided SOLELY by musicians 18 and under. There is a heck of a lot of talented young musicians in the Greater Baton Rouge Area, but there is little opportunity for them to perform to the public. The result is that we have an overwhelming number of bands all competing for the same one or two performance options, as well as a bunch of young bands who just don’t know where or how to get a gig. This fest is a stepping stone in our mission to provide more opportunity for those young musicians. There will be snacks, face painting, information booths on summer camp opportunities, and most importantly some GREAT JAMS by local talent. Starting in February 2012, group classes in guitar, percussion, or voice are back, but this time around, group classes are not only for beginners. In addition to large group beginner classes, we have geared some small group lessons toward intermediate and advanced students who want to take their lesson experience to the next level. The BRMS Young Band Nation took the stage Saturday evening and played to a SOLD OUT house! A professional quality multimedia event, this show is a must see! Actor/poet/musician Xero Skidmore will host the show in a “Tonight Show” style format, with each guest being his special guest band. See each young band jam original songs as well as popular favorites to custom tailored light shows. Enjoy the hilarious banter between Xero and each band as he calls them over to the couch for an interview after their performance. Pause for creative commercial breaks starring the young performers! Nine bands in one smooth and exciting show. This is no ordinary student recital. This is a professional showcase of BR’s talented youth! Music lovers, come out and enjoy!

SchoolJam USA is holding a contest for young bands across the country. BRMS’ own Nice Dog has enter the contest with 3 original songs. The finalists are chosen by a final tally of judges scores (60% weight) and public votes (40% weight). You can help Nice Dog win $5000 for their school band programs AND help them get the chance to fly to Europe and perform at SchoolJam Germany! The band will also get to go to the NAMM 2012 conference and stay at Disneyland while there! They may even get the chance to film a public service announcement for NAMM’s “Wanna play” campaign. free songwriting workshop by mike zito on oct 9
Award winning blues artist and songwriter, Mike Zito, will hold a songwriting workshop EXCLUSIVELY for the students and friends of BRMS! The workshop will take place at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge just after his 12pm-3pm performance at Sunday in the Park. After the concert (located in Lafayette Park between the Shaw Center and River Road) mosey a few blocks over to 427 Laurel Street to hear Mike share stories about his life as a musician. Mike will discuss the different ways he writes original songs and he will perform them. It’s easy to show your support to the Arts Council! Just attend the free concert!
